LEGO has finally released its first ever minifigure in a wheelchair, a figure that was shown off at the Nuremberg Toy Fair.

Of course, the minifigure is somewhat of a response to public pressure, with the company even resisting pressure from the likes of Toy Like Me, a campaign aimed at celebrating diversity in toys and making toys that are more representative of the children who play with them.

Toy Like Me was first launched last year, and primarily tries to get toy makers to make disabled figures and include them in their toy sets. It has already successfully lobbied for Playmobil to release toys with disabilities, but getting LEGO to do the same was reportedly quite a struggle. After 20,000 people signed a petition, LEGO responded, saying that "The beauty of the LEGO system is that children may choose how to use the pieces we offer to build their own stories."

According to the recent announcement, however, it seems as though LEGO has changed its mind. A new toy set called "Fun in the Park" will be released, priced at 40 euros, or around $43, and will hit stores in July of this year. The set includes a wheelchair figurine.

In fact, LEGO seems to be embracing modern times even more by showing a dad pushing the baby's stroller while a female minifigurine is shown in the background mowing the lawn.
