Samsung is yet again taking its game up a notch in the fast-growing virtual reality market. The South Korean-based company is now geared to take the wraps off its Gear 360 VR camera alongside its hottest new thing, the Galaxy S7, on Feb. 21, says a report.

SamMobile exclusively confirms that the Gear 360 VR camera is true and is pegged to be unwrapped in the company’s next big Unpacked event later this month.

This VR camera might be a spinoff of Project Beyond, which Samsung initially showed off to the public back in 2014, boasting the capability to capture 360-degree, 3D videos for Gear VR owners.

Fast forward to today, the Gear 360 VR is a compact spherical camera that can capture 360-degree images, thanks to its two 180-degree fisheye lenses.

The gadget will reportedly arrive with its Gear 360 Connect application, making it possible for the camera to be paired with a phone via Bluetooth. In addition, the device could also work with the latest Galaxy flagship smartphones.

What makes the camera truly sweet is that users can stream the video feed live from the Gear 360 to a connected smartphone. What’s not yet determined at the moment, though, is if it is possible to watch videos on other devices. On top of that, it is not yet confirmed whether watching straight on a phone that's docked in a Gear VR is feasible.

Resolution-wise, it is believed that the two snappers in the gadget will rock 1,920 x 1,920 pixels each. Together, they have the capacity to create a panoramic image with 3,840 x 1,920 pixels.

Apart from the Gear 360 Gallery and the remote viewfinder app that are bundled into the package, the camera is fitted with a ton of noteworthy features such as exposure control, HDR, ISO settings, white balance, the capability to switch between recording a 360- or 180-degree front or rear view, and a Live view option.

It is worth mentioning that the VR camera houses its own battery; hence, you will no longer need to tether the device into a wall.

Sad to say, but the report does not go into the details as to how much this camera will cost. We’ll keep you posted, nevertheless, on its price once it becomes available.

We’ll likely find out more about the Gear 360 VR camera plus, of course, the Galaxy S7, when Samsung kicks off the MWC later this month.

To play safe, it is important to take everything you read with a grain of salt.
