PC gamers who hope to see the DX12 in Rise of the Tomb Raider might have their wish granted sooner than expected, as the performance-enhancing option is already there.

The latest launcher of the game features the DX12 option, but it cannot be used just yet.

Reddit user Olek reported earlier that he stumbled upon the DirectX12 (DX12) option while fumbling around with the Rise of the Tomb Raider files. To back his finding, he posted screenshots that show the new launcher. Curious readers can check them out on the Reddit page. Olek also uploaded an image of the original launcher, for comparison.

The Reddit user explains that he obtained the new launchers after he replaced the ROTTR.exe file with the executable from the retail version.

Olek then goes on to explain what the new launcher's buttons do, and from the looks of it, the testing phase is still ongoing: "Exclusive Fullscreen" opens the setup menu. "Monitor" launches the game, and shuts down after the developer startup screen. "Graphics" takes users to Tomb Raider's official Facebook page. "Display" takes users to the official game website. "Options" sends you straight to the YouTube page of the title. "Enable DirectX 12" kills the launcher. "Stereoscopic 3D" takes you to Square Enix's support page.

A few days ago, the game got a patch which resolves a number of issues and enriches the gameplay in a substantial manner.

"We have just released the first PC patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider, build 1.0.610.1.

"This patch focuses on critical issues users ran into immediately following release, as well as minor updates based on user feedback which we could get in quickly," the developers say.

The game creators point out that the patch auto-applies at the next game start.
