The 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC) is about a week away and brands such as LG, Samsung and Gionee have already confirmed the launch of their flagship smartphones at the event. It seems Lenovo does not want to miss the party and will also showcase a mobile phone dubbed Lemon 3 Plus at the 2016 MWC.

Lemon 3 Plus will not be the company's flagship mobile phone but a mid-range Android device with some premium features in tow.

Lenovo has teased the new handset on social media and it is expected to be the bigger version of the Lemon 3, which was released in China early this year.

The teaser shows a smartphone with liquid metal being poured on it, which hints that the new Lenovo offering will sport an all-metal body to give it a premium look.

The Lemon 3 Plus is estimated to tout a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS screen with a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB of RAM are expected to power the device.

The Lenovo smartphone is speculated to include 16GB of internal storage. However, customers will also get the option of a microSD card slot in the handset, which will allow them to expand the storage capacity by an additional 128GB.

Just like the Lemon 3, the Lemon 3 Plus is also rumored to pack a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. The phone is expected to support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, GPS and USB 2.0 connectivity.

Google has released its latest mobile operating system (OS) — Android 6.0 Marshmallow — but the Lemon 3 Plus may not get the new OS. Instead, the phablet will get Android 5.1 Lollipop. Customers may have to wait until Lenovo rolls out a software update for the device.

The Lemon 3 is available in China in silver and gold colors. Customers can expect the bigger version of the phone to come is same color options.

Some market observers suggest that the handset teased by Lenovo may not get the Lemon 3 Plus name as the company sells Lemon series smartphones only in China. Lenovo launched the K3 Lemon as the A6000 in the international market.

Lenovo is yet to confirm the name and exact specs of the upcoming smartphone. Customers will have to wait for some more time before the Chinese handset maker officially launches the device at the 2016 MWC.
