Fans of The Rocky Horror Show will soon do the virtual time warp, now that a new video game based on the hit stage show and movie is in development.

Rocket Lolly Games announced the new title, which is the first game based on The Rocky Horror Show since 1999. The game's title is "Touch Me," which is a double entendre for one of the songs in the musical, "Touch-A, Touch-A Touch Me," as well as a nod to the game being developed for touchscreen mobile and tablet platforms, giving the experience of being a theater member in the show.

"Ella and I formed Rocket Lolly Games in order to bring this fantastic IP to market, which being fans ourselves we believe we can do with the care it deserves," said Rocket Lolly co-founder and director Oscar Clark in a press release. "Many great brands are cross-generational, but few capture the collective imagination like The Rocky Horror Show, which has managed to be gently outrageous since the '70s; it is as relevant today as it was when it first launched."

The Rocky Horror Show began life as a London musical, which premiered upstairs at the Royal Court Theatre in 1973. The show made it to Broadway in 1975, but only lasted through three preview performances. That was also the same year that creator Richard O'Brien adapted the story into a film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which went on to become one of the biggest cult classic movies of all time. The stage show got a revival on Broadway in 2000, which ran for several years. The film gets a re-imagining later this year as The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event.

"I have worked with Richard O'Brien on The Rocky Horror Show since it all began," said Andy Leighton, music publisher of The Rocky Horror Show. "Rocky has been realized as a theatre show, a film and a game before. However, now is the perfect time for it to be reimagined in a way that could only exist on our phones and tablets."

There's no word on a release date yet for the game, but it's likely it will arrive in the fall to time it with the release of the new television version of the movie. Fans can stay updated by visiting the game's official website.
