Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge and more smartphone customers will buy the new handsets. The launch of new phones has resulted in retailers reducing the prices of some of Samsung's older high-end models.

Best Buy customers can now purchase the Galaxy S6 edge and the Galaxy S6 edge+ at a discount of as high as $300.

The retailer is offering the Galaxy S6 edge for $49 on a two-year contract from Sprint and Verizon Wireless. The original price of the handset on a two-year contract is $249, which means a discount of $200. Customers who take the offer will get a 32 GB model of the phone in Black Sapphire, White Pearl and Gold color options.

The $200 discount is for the 64 GB (Sprint and Verizon) as well as 128 GB (Verizon only) versions of the phone. However, customers may not get all color options in the 64 GB or 128 GB models.

Best Buy is also offering the 32 GB and 64 GB Galaxy S6 edge+ at a discount of $300. Customers can buy the 5.7-inch 32 GB model of the Samsung phablet for $49 and the 64 GB version for $149 on a two-year contract from Sprint or Verizon. The handset is available in Black Sapphire and Gold hues.

Apart from the discount, Best Buy is also throwing in a gift card of $100 with the purchase of a Galaxy S6 edge or a Galaxy S6 edge+.

The Galaxy S6 edge and the Galaxy S6 edge+ have many similar features. Both the devices run on an Exynos 7 Octa 7420 processor clocked at 2.1 GHz. The 5.1-inch Galaxy edge has 3 GB of RAM while the Galaxy S6 edge+ gets 4 GB of RAM.

Both mobile phones have 16-megapixel primary and 5-megapixel front-facing cameras. The devices also have optical image stabilization (OIS) for better-quality images and a fingerprint scanner for improved security.

The Galaxy S6 edge includes a 2,600 mAh battery while the Galaxy S6 edge+ packs in a bigger 3,000 mAh battery.

The Galaxy S6 edge was released in March 2015 and the price reduction will not disappoint people who have purchased the phone when the handset initially hit the shelves. However, Samsung released the Galaxy S6 edge+ in mid-August and many customers would have purchased the phone at full price. A discount of $300 on the Samsung phablet may leave many customers unhappy.

Best Buy will ship the product in one business day and both the smartphones also qualify for store pickup from select stores.
