Verizon has a neat promotion in store for Samsung's latest flagships, offering a free Gear S2 or Gear VR with the purchase of a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge.

The promotion is exclusively available online and is a limited-time deal, set to expire on March 18.

We already knew that the new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will initially come bundled with the Gear VR headset, but Verizon is now spicing up that offer. If you're not that interested in virtual reality but could use a cool wearable gadget, you can now forego the Gear VR and choose the free Gear S2 instead.

It's worth pointing out that Verizon is not offering both the Gear S2 and the Gear VR bundled with the latest Galaxy smartphones, it's either one of the other. Once you've made your Galaxy S7 or S7 edge purchase, register your new device on Verizon's promotional website and choose your desired freebie.

At the same time, customers might want to read the fine print before taking advantage of this offer, just to have all the facts.

"From 2/23/16 through 3/18/16, purchase a Samsung GS7 or GS7 edge on device payment," notes Verizon.

"Offer claim form and valid purchase receipt must be submitted online by 3/31/16 at 11:59:59 p.m. EST. Subject to verification, customers will receive offer within approximately 4-6 weeks after verification of offer claim."

Of course, the deal goes with preorders of the handset, as the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have yet to actually hit retail availability. The two flagships just made their debut at the Mobile World Congress 2016 and should go on sale soon enough.

As always with hot new releases, carriers and retail partners are scrambling to come up with enticing offers to convince customers to buy from them and not the competition.

T-Mobile, for instance, is throwing in a free one-year Netflix subscription to sweeten the deal, Sprint offers to cover half the cost of a second Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, and Target is bundling a free $100 gift card, just to name a few deals.

It's no big surprise that Verizon came up with its own special offer, but remember that it applies when buying the Galaxy S7 or S7 edge on device payment plans online.
