When we first meet Han in Star Wars, he's a smuggler only looking out for himself. By the end of the film something has changed. He returns to save Luke during the attack on the Death Star, and suddenly he finds himself on the side of the Rebels in the galactic civil war.

Flash forward a few years to Empire Strikes Back, and Han is 100 percent on board with the Rebel cause. So what happened in between the two films? How did Han go from selfish businessman to galactic hero? That's what the new Han Solo miniseries from Marvel Comics looks to explore.

Coming this June, the book will be written by Marjorie Liu and illustrated by Mark Brooks. The five-issue tale involves Han entering a legendary starship race known as Dragon Void Run, but there's a catch. Leia wants Han to use the race as an opportunity to save vital Rebel informants, but doing so may be hurting Han's chances of winning the race. It will see the character torn between his smuggler ways and his newfound loyalty to the rebellion, which should make for story fans of the character will want to check out.

"This is a Han Solo who doesn't quite know who he is anymore," Liu tells Entertainment Weekly. "He doesn't think about politics, and suddenly he's thrust into this life-or-death struggle for beliefs he didn't even know he cared about - and it has changed him. He doesn't want to believe
that change, but he has."

Liu says she was given free rein over what story she wanted to tell, as long as it took place between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Of course, Chewbacca will be along for the ride, with Liu describing Han's co-pilot as his "better angel," but there will be new characters as well. One major new face is a female pilot by the name of Loo Re Anno, who is one of the last of her species, which just so happens to be a brand-new Star Wars race designed by Brooks. While the Empire will be involved somewhat, Lui says it won't be the primary villain of the series, a role which will instead go to a character from Han's past.
