Choosing to buy items online carries its fair share of risks and rewards. While it saves customers the hassles of having to go to a physical store to pick up the merchandise themselves, there is always the possibility of not getting the same quality they had hoped for or even the exact item they bought at all.

Alans Ng from Malaysia was one such customer who thought he could get the best deal for a brand-new Apple iPhone 6s by buying it from an online dealer.

He placed an order for the smartphone to 11street MY, a Kuala Lumpur-based retailer, for the equivalent of $736. This allowed him to save $50 off the unit's usual selling price.

However, when the package for the iPhone 6s arrived, Ng found out that it contained a regular padlock wrapped in plastic instead of a brand-new Apple smartphone.

Ng took to posting on Facebook to vent his frustration over the potentially fraudulent transaction. He said that the package still had a courier's seal, which proves that the delivery company did not tamper with his order. The supplier is the only one who could have caused such a mistake.

The post drew the attention of some social media users who chose to share Ng's bad online purchase experience.

Ng said that he was contacted by the vendor, who told him to send the padlock package back so that they can replace it with the correct one. He was able to receive his Apple iPhone 6s after meeting with a representative of 11street MY. He said that the company apologized about the mistake.

After receiving the genuine item, Ng posted on Facebook again, this time asking other users not to judge the vendor quickly. He said that 11street MY uses a system where a vendor won't be able to get the payment for a transaction until the buyer confirms that he or she received the correct item.

As for the cause of the mistake in delivery, Ng said that he does not know for certain but the police are already investigating the matter. He advised other customers who are looking to buy items online to always check the contents of their package as soon as they receive it.
