Samsung's massive 18.4-inch Galaxy View tablet is now available through Verizon, which is the first time that the device can be purchased through a carrier.

The tablet, which was initially announced in October 2015, packs a 1.6 GHz octa-core Cortex A53 CPU, Samsung's Exynos 7580 chipset, a 2.1MP camera, 2 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, and a memory card slot for additional storage of up to 128 GB. It ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed, has a 5,700 mAh battery, and weighs a little more than 90 ounces.

Verizon is now offering the Galaxy View through three different options. The first option is to purchase the device outright for $599.99, and the second option is to buy the tablet for $499.99 with a two-year contract.

For the third option, customers can purchase the Galaxy View through a 24-month, zero-down payment scheme for $24.99 per month.

According to Verizon, the Galaxy View has a portable design that allows users to enjoy a big-screen experience from any room in the home, in partnership with the carrier's 4G LTE network.

Verizon added that the massive tablet is the perfect mobile multimedia device for individuals such as college students and young professionals to gain access to a complete entertainment center in their apartments or dorm rooms. The carrier also noted that parents can watch their programs on the Galaxy View while the kids are sleeping or when the kids have taken over the living room TV.

Verizon also highlighted the Galaxy View's built-in stand, which allows for hands-free usage, and its grab-and-go handle for portability.

Reviews on the Galaxy View upon its launch last year were mixed, with its size being the best feature that it can offer to users to be seen as a worthwhile product. However, Samsung failed in that regard, as the screen has a low pixel density of 119 ppi on a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution display. In addition, the Galaxy View is constructed similar to the cheap-feeling plastic bodies of older Samsung devices, and for half the price, users can already purchase a 32-inch 1080 Vizio smart TV for a better viewing experience.

However, on a more positive note, the internals of the tablet are solid enough for its purpose of watching videos and browsing the Web.

"For better or worse, there's no other tablet like this," wrote The Verge's Chris Welch regarding the tablet, and for customers that are looking at the good side of the device, they can now grab one through Verizon.
