He may already be back home on Earth after spending a full year in space for NASA to study the effect of long-term weightlessness on the human body, but astronaut Scott Kelly's Instagram feed still has some pretty fascinating images to show – all in the name of science!

Although the images Kelly posts are no longer of the view of our planet and stars from the International Space Station, or of his crazy antics in space like chasing his fellow astronoauts in a gorilla costume, his new photos back on the ground show how much more appreciative he is on things on Earth.

From his dentist's office to wildflowers, a humble slice of apple pie on Pi Day, even the most mundane things take on a new meaning when seen from the eyes of a man who had to live in orbit for more than 300 days.

I missed my regular 6-month checkup and cleaning last year. #YearInSpace

But even though Kelly has already announced his retirement from NASA in a month, he will still have to undergo tests for the space and science exploration agency to study the effects of being in microgravity for such a long time. For some time, part of Kelly's routine back home will be to get scans, have all of his vital signs monitored regularly and even get spinal taps. Certainly, even back on Earth, an astronaut's job is not for the faint of heart.

Although we won't be seeing breathtaking views of the sun setting over the horizon from outside our planet, or the silhouette of the space station against the vastness of space, Kelly continues to impress his social media followers with equally poignant photos of dinners with his family, walks with his dogs, and yes, even sunsets from earth, which are just as beautiful.
