Customers looking for a powerful smartphone on a budget should take a good look at the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, which is currently on sale on Amazon.

The Xperia Z5 Compact was released alongside its bigger counterpart, the Xperia Z5, in the United States last month, initially through online retail stores including Amazon, Best Buy and B&H Photo. At launch, the Xperia Z5 Compact had a price tag of $499, which is not bad for a smartphone carrying its specifications.

The Xperia Z5 Compact packs a 4.6-inch 720p Triluminous display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, 2 GB of RAM and a 2,700 mAh battery. It features a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of 4K video recording with what Sony claims is the world's fastest autofocus system.

Shortly after the launch of the Xperia Z5 Compact in the U.S., it already received price cuts. In mid-February, a $50 discount was applied to the smartphone's price tag, and a couple of weeks later, the discount slightly increased to $56.

The discount to the Xperia Z5 Compact is now at its highest so far at $100, which takes the price of the smartphone to only $399.99.

Customers will be able to choose between the black and the white versions of the Xperia Z5 Compact on Amazon, and all of the units on sale are unlocked smartphones that come with warranties. However, it should be noted that the smartphones are only compatible with LTE networks and not CDMA, which means they will work fine with T-Mobile and AT&T but will not be compatible with Verizon and Sprint.

The successive price cuts on the Xperia Z5 Compact are primarily caused by two reasons. First, the release of the smartphone and its bigger counterpart in the U.S. was delayed for quite some time, which frustrated potential customers and could have led them to shift their interest to another device. Second, the U.S. models of the Xperia Z5 Compact do not come with the fingerprint sensor feature, with Sony claiming that the omission was a business decision without any further clarification on the matter.

Nevertheless, the Xperia Z5 Compact is a very capable smartphone, and at a price of $399.99, it could be considered a good deal.
