Patches and updates are an unavoidable part of gaming these days. It seem players can't go for more than a few days without needing to download some sort of update - though, while it's annoying that these updates are so frequent, most of them are smaller files that can be downloaded in a matter of minutes.

With the first piece of Star Wars: Battlefront's Season Pass launching today, gamers were expecting to download a new update. That being said, the Outer Rim patch may be a bit bigger than fans were expecting: at a whopping 8GB, the Battlefront update is almost big enough to be its own game.

It's a huge update, but it makes sense why it's so big: Outer Rim comes stocked with two new Hero characters, two new maps, two new weapons, a number of new Star Cards, Hutt Contracts and the new Extraction mode. The update isn't just about new content, either: EA and DICE have implemented a huge number of different bug fixes and balance tweaks as well.

First and foremost, the patch contains all of Outer Rim's new content, which includes the following:

Heroes
• Nien Nunb
• Greedo

Maps
• Jabba's Throne Room
• Sullust Factories

Features
• Hutt Contracts
• Spectator Mode
• Increased Level Cap

Weapons
• Relby V-10 rifle
• DT-12 pistol
• Scatter Gun
• Dioxis Grenade
• Adrenaline Stim

Modes
• Extraction

It's easily the game's biggest update so far, but the new content is just the tip of the iceberg: DICE has also tweaked and re-balanced just about every aspect of gameplay. Everything, from Darth Vader's Lightsaber Throw to Luke's running speed to collision detection to how the scoreboard is displayed have all been adjusted in the Outer Rim patch. Most of the changes are subtle, but with so many of them, there's a good chance that Battlefront will feel slightly different to those who have been playing since launch.

The full list of changes is absolutely exhaustive, but if you want to pore over the details yourself, you can find the patch notes over at EA's official Battlefront forums; otherwise, you can download the Outer Rim patch now. Just remember, only those with Season Passes will be able to access the new maps and modes - everyone else will have to wait until April.
