Google released the April security patch for Android devices on April 4. The security update, however, is not limited to Nexus devices alone as it is also available for the Android-powered BlackBerry Priv smartphone.

"We have released a security update to Nexus devices through an over-the-air (OTA) update as part of our Android Security Bulletin Monthly Release process," said the release notes from Android.

The security patch covers 29 issues of which the most concerning is the "a Critical security vulnerability that could enable remote code execution on an affected device through multiple methods such as email, web browsing, and MMS when processing media files."

The OTA security patch for the BlackBerry Priv was confirmed by the Canadian company as well. The security update was pushed out by BlackBerry on April 4 to its devices.

The patch will aid in addressing the numerous susceptibilities plaguing Android-powered BlackBerry powered by Android handsets.

"BlackBerry has released a security update to address multiple vulnerabilities in BlackBerry powered by Android smartphones," revealed BlackBerry in a bulletin post.

BlackBerry advises that users of the BlackBerry Priv to update the device to the latest build which is available for the handset.

The April patch by Google brings several fixes to Android devices, including specific ones for the BlackBerry handsets.

The build number for the update is AAE298 and those who purchased their BlackBerry Priv smartphone directly for the company are in luck — they can download and install the patch immediately.

Users of the BlackBerry Priv who purchased the handset via a carrier or somewhere else need to hang on a little longer for the patch to hit their device,

"If your BlackBerry Powered by Android smartphone was purchased from a source other than ShopBlackBerry.com, please contact that retailer or carrier directly for security maintenance release availability information," said the company.

If you purchased the BlackBerry Priv directly from the company you can manually check if the monthly update has made its way to your device. To do so, navigate to Settings > About Phone >Check for Updates.
