Those curious about Gearbox's first-person MOBA Battleborn will be able to take the game for a spin later today on PlayStation 4.

The game's open beta officially launches at 10 p.m. PDT for PlayStation 4 users. Better yet, players won't need PlayStation Plus to give the beta a try. PlayStation gamers get to experience the beta five days ahead of Xbox One and PC players, who will be able to join in on April 13. The open beta will end on April 17.

As if extra time with the beta wasn't enough, those testing out Battleborn on PS4 will also receive additional free content when the full game launches in May. The game's first DLC pack and an extra playable character will be free for PS4 beta testers, and PS4 players can also play as an additional character in the beta.

Players will be able to test out Battleborn's story mode as well as two different multiplayer game types in the beta. At the start, seven characters from the game's roster of heroes will be available for play, with additional characters available for unlock after progressing through the beta's campaign. Here's Gearbox's official description for the two story missions available to beta players:

The Algorithm: Take on the Algorithm mission to debug and unlock the rogue Magnus AI, ISIC. If you played in the Closed Technical Test last year, you'll notice Geoff, the Spider King, has made a few changes to his lair.

Void's Edge: Bring a jacket, ‘cause the ice-planet, Bliss, is mighty cold. A Varelsi portal has opened and it's up to you to fight your way through the invasion and deliver the payload.

In addition, players can try two different game modes on two separate maps. You can read about those below:

Incursion: (Overgrowth map) Destroy the enemy's two Spider Sentry Drones before they get to yours.

Meltdown: (Paradise map) Send waves of minions to their death and score points for every minion who throws themselves into the incinerator. The team with the most scrap metal wins!

It must be a little discouraging for Xbox and PC players to see PlayStation players get such preferential treatment, but it's not exactly new. Destiny on PS4 has long had timed exclusives over the Xbox version, and DLC for Call of Duty arrives on PlayStation first. Battleborn just looks to be the latest drop in the bucket of exclusivity.

If you're interested in giving the game a go, you can download the open beta now via the PlayStation Store. Players on Xbox One and PC can go ahead and pre-install the beta in anticipation for when their servers go live on April 13.
