DisplayMate announced that Apple's smaller 9.7-inch iPad Pro has the best performing LCD display compared to all other mobile LCD displays they have tested.

The company says the 9.7-inch iPad Pro's display beats the display of the iPad Air 2 iPad Mini 4 and even the latest 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

While it is true that the new iPad Pro has the same screen size and resolution with the iPad Air 2, its True Tone feature, which is missing in the larger iPad Pro, has allowed it to outrank the rest.

According to DisplayMate, the performance between the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and the iPad Air 2 was examined using the company's in-depth series of Mobile Display Technology Shoot-Out Lab tests and measurements.

At least nine categories were used as bases for comparison between the two devices. These include Brightness and Contrast, LCD Spectra, Screen Reflections, Viewing Angles, Colors and Intensities and Display Power.

There are two special reasons why the 9.7-inch iPad Pro beats other current iPad models, as claimed by DisplayMate. The device reportedly has very high Absolute Color Accuracy (1.35 JNCD) and very low Screen Reflectance (1.7 percent).

"The key to the iPad experience is the display," says Apple. "It's how you interact using Multi-Touch, and how you view content in spectacular detail. ... The new 9.7-inch iPad Pro screen - our most advanced display - is the brightest and least reflective in the world."

Apple also touts that the 9.7-inch iPad Pro display uses the same color space as the digital cinema industry. It has a color saturation that is 25 percent greater than the older iPad models.

One area in which the 9.7-inch iPad Pro falls short, however, is the contrast ratio, where it scored 1,022. That is lower than the 1,631 found in the larger iPad Pro 12.9. On the other hand, the smaller iPad Pro managed to shine in most major areas as far as display comparison is concerned.

Other notable features of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro include 2,048 x 1,536 resolution at 264 ppi, a wide color display, fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, fully laminated display, antireflective coating, 12 MP iSight rear camera, 5 MP front camera. It also has a number of sensors that include Touch ID, barometer, ambient light, accelerometer and three-axis gyro, among others.
