The truth behind Conor McGregor's sudden retirement tweet is that the UFC star was simply sick and tired of being asked to fulfill the company's promotional requirements.

"I am just trying to do my job and fight here," McGregor wrote in a lengthy rant on his Facebook account Thursday. "I am paid to fight. I am not yet paid to promote. I have become lost in the game of promotion and forgot about the art of fighting. There comes a time when you need to stop handing out flyers and get back to the damn shop."

Still, McGregor's explanation isn't going to stop the WWE Universe — nor the company itself — from speculating about the mixed martial arts (MMA) star jumping ship from the UFC to the leader in sports entertainment the way Ken Shamrock and Brock Lesnar have in the past.

As spotted by Metro, one bookmaker, Bwin.com, has pinned McGregor's odds to leave the UFC for WWE before the end of the year at 2/1.

Those odds would seemingly tilt to WWE's favor even further if UFC president Dana White stands firm by his decision to not let Conor compete at UFC 200 on July 9 in Las Vegas, where McGregor was supposed to have a rematch with Nate Diaz.

Perhaps WWE diva Becky Lynch, who's also from Dublin, Ireland, will lay it on even thicker after already imploring McGregor via Twitter to join her in WWE. In addition, McGregor also follows the Twitter accounts of Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, so perhaps now's the time for them to chime in with their best recruiting pitches as well.

WWE.com is doing its part, as it published this video on YouTube earlier in the week, openly talking about the possibility of McGregor bringing his MMA style to WWE.

How this ongoing power struggle between White and McGregor goes remains to be seen, but it's clear that Conor thinks engaging in too many media requirements will hurt his chances of avenging last month's loss to Diaz.

"Keep that $10 mill to promote the other bums that need it. My shows are good," McGregor continued with his rant yesterday. "I must isolate myself now. I am facing a taller, longer and heavier man. I need to prepare correctly this time. I can not dance for you this time."

He ended his rant saying that he's not retired. Let's see how the rest of this situation unravels.
