Microsoft's smartphone business has been struggling, with the company only selling 2.3 million units in the previous quarter. Microsoft ended the quarter with a high amount of stocks in Lumia sales channels, which could lead to a drop in orders for the current quarter and the return of unsold smartphones to the company.

Microsoft could already have a place to solve this inventory glut though, as tweeted by Windows developer David Mealo.

Through a tweet, Mealo hinted that a great deal is coming soon to the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which are Microsoft's current flagship smartphones for Windows 10 Mobile. A couple of hours later, Mealo revealed that the offer is a buy one, get one deal that will allow customers to get the Lumia 950 free for every purchase of the Lumia 950 XL.

Mealo did not indicate how the deals will be available, and with no carriers offering the Lumia 950 XL in the United States, the safe bet is to assume that the offer can be availed only directly through the Microsoft Store.

There is no other source so far for the supposed buy one, get one deal, so it should be considered as a rumor at this point. However, Mealo did correctly predict that Microsoft will be launching new Surface Pro type covers, so the developer has a history of knowing what the company is up to.

The offer will supposedly begin on April 25, so it should soon be revealed whether Mealo's tweets were telling the truth.

Microsoft has been stepping up efforts to push sales for the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Earlier in the month, the company launched a trade-in program that will allow customers to save $150 in purchasing the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL when they trade in a Lumia 1020, Lumia 925 or Lumia 920. In January, Microsoft began to bundle a free one-year Office 365 Personal subscription with every purchase of the smartphones.
