Zack Snyder's work on the big screen has seen its ups and downs. His "Dawn of the Dead" remake was universally praised, and everyone agreed that "300" was a gorgeously faithful adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel. But "Watchmen" was so faithful it lost something in the translation, while "Sucker Punch" was a passion project that no one wanted to see but Snyder himself.

These days, he's hard at work building up Warner Bros.' DC Comics cinematic universe. He kicked things off with last year's "Man of Steel," and right now he's filming "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," with the long-awaited "Justice League" movie immediately after.

But we at T-Lounge believe Snyder's true ambitions are pointed at another mega-franchise — one set in a galaxy far, far away.

In early 2013, news outlets all over the Net reported that Snyder was in serious discussions with Lucasfilm to direct one of the standalone "Star Wars" movies. (The first two have instead gone to up-and-coming whippersnappers Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank.) Snyder's pic was expected to be a "Seven Samurai"-inspired Jedi epic. Snyder quickly denied the reports, but inside sources still insist that it came close to happening.

More recently, while filming "Batman v. Superman," Snyder has been letting out his inner fanboy by tweeting Star Wars-inspired mashups from the set. The first one came just as Comic-Con 2014 was kicking off, depicting "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill as a dark Jedi.

In response, J.J. Abrams tweeted an image of "Star Wars: Episode VII" star John Boyega dressed as Batman. A little over a week later, Snyder came back with this clever picture of R2-D2 and Batman walking across the Tatooine desert.

Abrams  fired back again with a Photoshop job of C-3PO standing in for Batman on Gotham's rooftops. Yesterday, a rumor circulated that the newly-revealed Batmobile was stolen from the movie's Detroit set. The report was bogus, but Snyder couldn't resist having his fun.

All of this evidence adds up to one thing: Zack Snyder wants to direct a Star Wars movie. Because who wouldn't? Star Wars! The only question is, how badly does he want it? Is it driving him to distraction? Is it nagging him so much he can't concentrate on the "Batman v. Superman" set? Is he inserting Star Wars references and easter eggs throughout his movie? Does he have a little voodoo doll of J.J. Abrams where he curses the "Star Wars" director daily for landing the gig that Snyder would have sold his firstborn for? Is he arriving on set every day dressed as Darth Vader?!?    Whatever's happening, Snyder isn't letting go of his Star Wars dreams anytime soon.

Hang in there, Zack. Maybe someday.
