HTC is expected to build Google's upcoming Nexus 9 and the tablet will likely appear in October, according to a new report. Images of its keyboard case have leaked.

Google has always loved to partner with Android licensees to build its Nexus smartphones and tablets, and consumers have loved the devices for a number of reasons. When buying a Nexus smartphone or tablet, it comes with a guarantee of receiving the latest and greatest version of Android whenever Google releases it. The devices don't need to go through carrier testing, which can take months. Instead, Google pushes out OTA (over the air) updates typically hours after it announces its latest Android OS.

Nexus fans also love the fact that they are getting top-notch specs Google has chosen to really showcase the latest features introduced in Android. Nexus devices also typically carry affordable prices compared with competing iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

Google hasn't released an update to its very popular Nexus 7 tablet since July 2013 and Nexus fans have been patiently waiting for a new Nexus tablet. It looks like that wait could be coming to an end in October.

HTC has scheduled a "Double Exposure" media event on Oct. 8 and the company is widely expected to unveil a standalone camera, HTC One M8 Eye, and HTC Eye smartphones. A new report from 4GNews.pt claims that HTC will also officially launch the Nexus 9 tablet alongside its new camera and smartphones.

The site's source claims the HTC Nexus 9 will feature a 9-inch 1920 x 1280 Full HD display and will be the first device to ship with Android L out of the box. The tablet will be pack a powerful 2.3-GHz quad-core 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and 3 GB of RAM to provide a fast and fluid user interface. It will ship with 16 GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128-GB microSD cards, and include 100 GB of Google Drive cloud storage for two years.

Lending more proof that the HTC Nexus 9 is on its way, images of the Nexus 9's keyboard case have leaked. The Bluetooth keyboard serves double duty by protecting the Nexus 9 while also allowing users to be more productive by having a physical Qwerty keyboard at all times.
