HTC 10 smartphone owners who have the Ice View case will be pleased to learn that HTC has released the companion app for the accessory, which does more than merely protect the device.

The HTC Ice View is a transparent cover for the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer's newest flagship.

With a dedicated app, users can now view alerts, click photos, attend to calls, and check the battery level of the handset, among other things, even when the HTC 10 is covered.

"Access your phone instantly without even opening the case. With HTC Ice View, you can answer calls, read notifications, control music playback, capture photos and more. Improve the way you use your phone with the dual-purpose case that combines protection and convenience," notes the app's description.

The Ice View was previously named the Dot View case. However, when the company launched the HTC 10 in April this year, it renamed it to Ice View. The updated version of the case displays information on the cover itself.

Now, thanks to the companion application for the Ice View case, users of the HTC 10 and the Ice View case will be able to control the information displayed on the screen.

The app will enable one to do the following:

• View the date, weather and time

• Check battery level (by tapping the clock)

• Pause playback or skip a song

• Reject or receive phone calls

• Redial a recent call by swiping up

• Review notifications (swipe right or left)

• Access the camera by deploying the Motion Launch gesture even when the screen is off

• Dismiss an alarm or snooze by swiping down

The HTC Ice View app is available as a free download on the Google Play Store. However, it is only compatible with the combo of an HTC 10 smartphone and the Ice View case.
