ZTE is pushing hard to deliver its third Zmax Android smartphone, which is purportedly dubbed Zmax Pro and comes laden with goodies and upgrades.

When compared with the existing edition of Zmax 2, Zmax Pro will feature better security and significantly improved performance, while maintaining a fair price point.

The first two iterations of the Zmax handset featured HD resolutions of 720 x 1,280 pixels on relatively large screens. The Zmax had a 5.7-inch display, while the Zmax 2 displayed its visuals on a 5.5-inch screen.

VentureBeat reports that the upcoming Zmax Pro will pack the largest display from the line, a hefty 6-inch of full HD (1,080p). Also, the new device will feature LTE support.

Looking under the hood of the upcoming device, a notable upgrade happened in the CPU sector: Zmax Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600-series chipset. More specifically, the phone gets a Snapdragon 617 eight-core that runs at 1.5 GHz, which is faster than the predecessors' 400-series chips.

Processing power will be backed by 2 GB of RAM, just as in the anterior editions, but the default storage capacity will get a boost. The Zmax Pro will sport 32 GB of space instead of 16 GB.

A broader look at the technical specs and size show that the smartphone shares a lot with another ZTE device, the Imperial Max hosted by U.S. Cellular. The Imperial Max, however, works with a Snapdragon 615 onboard.

The camera combo is an area where the Imperial Max and Zmax Pro share their hardware. Both come packed with a 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel secondary selfie snapper. Zmax Pro has the upper hand in security features, as the device is rumored to pack a fingerprint sensor on the home button.

No official information surfaced about the price of the upcoming smartphone, but we do know that ZTE's devices offer bang for the buck. For example, the unlocked variant of the modestly spec'd Zmax 2 costs $150.

We expect the Zmax Pro to land sometime this summer with Android Marshmallow pre-installed.

Insiders familiar with the matter note that the Zmax Pro will join T-Mobile. As a reminder, the Zmax 2 fell into AT&T's prepaid program.
