A slew of smartphones have launched in 2016, such as the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) and the Motorola Moto G4 Plus. These phones are packed with impressive features that will attract customers looking for a budget handset.

Here is a quick look at what the two mobile phones have to offer.

Display And Design

The new Galaxy J7 and Moto G4 Plus both sport a 5.5-inch screen. The J7 has a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels with 267 pixels per inch (ppi), while the G4 Plus has a 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution and just a little more than 400 ppi.

Design-wise, the Galaxy J7 steals the show as it has an all-metal design, which gives the handset a premium feel. The Moto G4 Plus has a metal frame, but the back is made of rubber, which offers good grip.

Processor, RAM And Storage

The Galaxy J7 comes with a 1.6 GHz octa-core processor and 2 GB of RAM. The mobile phone has 16 GB of internal storage, which is expandable to up to 128 GB with a microSD card.

The Moto G4 Plus is available in three models and all of them are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor. The handset is available in a choice of 2 GB, 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM, depending on the storage capacity of 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB of internal storage spaces, respectively. Just like the Galaxy J7, the Moto G4 Plus also offers support of up to 128 GB of external storage with a microSD card.

Camera

The Samsung smartphone is equipped with 13-megapixel rear-facing and 5-megapixel front-facing cameras. The device has a front as well as a rear flash.

"Both the cameras (front and rear) on Galaxy J7 (2016) come with f/1.9 aperture. This means you can capture clearer pictures even in low light conditions. With the Quick Launch feature, you will never miss out on a beautiful moment. And with a host of other features that will enhance your pictures, you can take your selfies to the next level," says Samsung.

The Moto G4 Plus comes with a 16-megapixel (f/2.0 lens) primary camera and a 5-megapixel (f/2.2 lens) selfie camera.

Motorola claims that the latest phone has received a high rating from DxOMark, which brings the camera of the smartphone among the top mobile phone cameras like the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.

Battery

A 3,300 mAh battery powers the Galaxy J7. The battery offers up to 23 hours of talk time, up to 21 hours of video playback time and up to 96 hours of audio playback time. Users can also benefit from the Ultra Power Saving mode when the battery is running low. This mode allows access only to necessary apps so that the phone can be used longer.

The Moto G4 Plus has a 3,000 mAh battery that offers all-day use.

"Give your battery a quick energy boost so you can power up and get going. The included TurboPower charger gives Moto G Plus up to 6 hours of power in just 15 minutes of charging," says Motorola.

Operating System

Both the smartphones come packed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box.

Form Factor

The Samsung phone measures 151.7 x 76 x 7.8 millimeters, or about 5.97 x 2.99 x 0.31 inches. The Motorola handset measures 153 x 76.6 x 9.8 millimeters, or around 6.02 x 3.02 x 0.39 inches, which makes it slightly thicker than the Samsung rival.

The Galaxy J7 weighs 170 grams, or 6.0 ounces, making it slightly heavier than the Moto G4 Plus that weighs 155 grams, or about 5.47 ounces.

Fingerprint Scanner

Fingerprint scanners are becoming the norm in top-end flagship devices. The Moto G4 Plus includes a fingerprint scanner on the home button. On the other hand, Galaxy J7 customers will still have to use a passcode to unlock their mobile phone as the Galaxy J7 does not have fingerprint sensors at all.

Both the Galaxy J7 (2016) and the Moto G4 Plus are affordable and will impress customers looking for a mid-segment smartphone. However, the Moto G4 Plus gets an edge over the Samsung rival when it comes to the fingerprint scanner, RAM and storage options and fast-charging capability.
