Best Buy has started selling the Huawei Honor 5X for $199.99 in the United States.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei launched the Honor 5X in October 2015, but only in China. The handset made its way to U.S. shores in January this year.

The Honor 5X is not Huawei's flagship mobile phone; however, it has modest but powerful specs. The Huawei offering also bagged seven awards at the 2016 CES.

The Honor 5X has a massive 5.5-inch full HD IPS screen with a display resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The phone has a 72.5 percent screen-to-body ratio and a fully laminated screen that renders vivid and crisp images.

An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and 2 GB of RAM power the Honor 5X. The mobile phone comes with 16 GB built-in storage, which may deter some customers who often keep a lot of media such as music and videos on their smartphone. However, the Huawei phablet has a microSD card slot that expands the storage capacity up to 128 GB.

The Honor 5X is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with wide f/2.0 aperture. The phone has a number of modes such as Food mode, which lets users capture food images with stunning realism and colors.

"Time-lapse mode to capture photos intervals that can be compiled into short videos," says Huawei. The slow motion mode, meanwhile, lets users "capture video at 120 fps to enable playback at four-times slower than real life."

The Honor 5X includes a 3,000 mAh battery that supports 2A chargers for significantly shorter charging times. The integrated SmartPower 3.0 technology reduces power consumption by about 30 percent. The company claims that the battery life lasts about 1.46 days with moderate use and more than a day with heavy use.

The Honor 5X comes running on Android 5.1 Lollipop. In April, Huawei confirmed that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be coming soon to the mobile phone, but the software is yet to be rolled out.

At launch, the Honor 5X was only available in the United States via Amazon, Newegg or from the company's own Web store; however, it is now available from Best Buy at $199.99. Customers have the option to pick gold, silver or gray colors.

The unlocked Honor 5X available at Best Buy is compatible with GSM carriers in the United States, including AT&T and T-Mobile. The retailer suggests that the phone is also compatible with GSM SIM Kits, including Net10, H2O, GoPhone and Simple Wireless.
