Ten days after HTC said it sent the KitKat code to Google for approval, HTC One Google Play edition has started getting the Android 4.4 update.

The Google Play edition is an initiative by Google where flagship products run pure stock Android without any additional skin running. The Android 4.4 KitKat update for the HTC One with Sense UI has still not been released.

With this update, HTC One Google Play edition has become the first non-Google phone to run Android 4.4.

The update, whose size is 305MB and is named Android 4.4 KRT 16S, fixes bugs related to radio connectivity and encryption.

However, the update doesn't include the Nexus 5's "Google Experience Launcher," that added Google Now option to the home screen.

The lesson learnt here is that the update reaches faster the devices that run the stock Android versions. Moto X, which added some light changes to the skin is exception though. Probably, because Google owns Motorola.

If you can't wait to get the update on your HTC One Google Play edition automatically, you can grab it from the OTA download link posted here on the XDA-Developers forum by a user.

At the time of reporting, Samsung's Galaxy S4 Google Play edition has also received the Android 4.4 KitKat update.
