Hyrule Warriors Legends arrived on the Nintendo 3DS in March this year, serving as a follow-up to the popular Hyrule Warriors for Wii U, which arrived one year earlier.

There were some annoyances with the 3DS port, such as the fact that it had an exclusive storyline that isn't present on the Wii U version (which hopefully will be rectified in the future), as well as the fact that the 3DS has a bit of a hard time handling the gameplay Warrior titles have to offer (something that is shared with many games of the genre on handhelds). Aside from those issues, the game is solid, though the argument could be made that it doesn't entirely stack up to the original.

Despite that, however, there is one thing that Hyrule Warriors Legends has over the original: the newly introduced cast.

No, that assertion has nothing to do with tiers or the relative strength of each character. Rather, this has to do with how creative the newly added characters are. There is something about the 3DS that made Omega Force and Team Ninja overflow with inspiration, and it shows in the roster of Hyrule Warriors' 3DS port.

The new game added Linkle, Tetra, King Daphnes, Toon Link, Skull Kid, Medli and Marin — an absolute far cry from the original roster. Don't be confused, both casts are impressive, but it seems like the developers didn't have to put in as much effort in making the cast in the original game. Link, Zelda, Shiek, Young Link, Ganondorf, Zant and Ghirahim have already fought in previous Nintendo games, and it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine the rest of the original cast like Impa and Darunia, fighting either. In fact, the only character who seemed completely out there was Agitha.

Conversely, how about the new cast? Linkle is already spoken for, but then there are the likes of King Daphnes, Skull Kid, Medli and Marin. Not in anyone's wildest dreams would you expect to see those characters fight it out (except maybe for Skull Kid). Now, thanks to a leak, it looks future characters will keep up that trend.

Said leak appears to suggest that Ravio, Yuga and T.Zelda (probably Toon Zelda) will be joining the cast in a future DLC pack. Yuga is the primary antagonist in A Link Between Worlds, so he's not too hard to imagine fighting in a game like this, but Toon Zelda and Ravio are a different story. Toon Zelda does a bit of fighting in her game, using a Bow and Light Arrows, to aid Link in his fight against Ganondorf, but it's a far cry from what the regular Zelda is portrayed doing. On the other hand, Ravio is the ultimate example of a non-fighter, in fact, in A Link Between Worlds he pretty much lets Link do his job for him.

It's been a long journey since the original game arrived in 2014. The first character was a legendary hero who was a veritable one-man army. Now, in 2016, we may be getting a character who sold the legendary hero the weapons that earned him his one-man army status.

Unfortunately, none of this has been confirmed yet, but it seems legit. And considering how past characters have been handled, it will be interesting to see how they all play once they arrive.
