Amazon Prime Day is upon us, and those who aren't Amazon Prime members yet can still get in on all the best deals and discounts without breaking the bank in order to do so. Some Amazon customers can sign up for Amazon Prime right now absolutely free, while all others can join in on the Prime Day fun for a minimal cost of $10.99.

The regular cost of an Amazon Prime membership is $99 per year, although there's a chance the company may offer a special price on an annual Prime membership this Prime Day, July 12. Even so, the outlay will still be considerable, even though you'll be able to use your membership to receive all Prime benefits for an entire year.

Those benefits include free two-day shipping on thousands of items, and free same day shipping in many major metropolitan areas (and reduced cost overnight and same day shipping in other territories), plus free access to Amazon Prime's movie and music streaming services, cloud photo storage and more. While that's still a pretty good deal for less than a hundred bucks a year, not everyone is necessarily willing or able to make that type of financial commitment.

Amazon customers who don't currently belong to Prime who would like to participate in Prime Day can actually do so for a much lower cost, and in some cases for free. All Amazon customers are entitled to a free 30-day trial of Prime, so if you haven't availed yourself of that offer, Prime Day is the perfect time to do so.

If you have already received your one free 30-day trial, don't despair. If all members of your household aren't Amazon customers yet, you can just create a free Amazon account for one of them and they will immediately be eligible for a free 30-day Prime trial.

Otherwise, with Amazon's recently introduced monthly Prime billing option, you can sign up for Prime for a monthly fee of $10.99. While that's a bit more per month than paying it all upfront, the benefit is that you won't be locked into a year's worth of payments; that is, you can cancel your membership at any time. That means you can sign up for one month of Prime at $10.99, which includes Prime Day, and then cancel rather than renew at the end of the month. Amazon will even send you a reminder three days before your card is set to be charged, during which you can cancel your Prime membership if you so desire.

And don't forget, if you're a student with a valid .edu email address, you can get Amazon Prime for a generous six free months, and then continue as a member for half price for as long as you remain a student, for up to four years in total. Happy Prime Day!
