Evernote is moving well beyond delivering note-syncing software and now offering new contextual research aid, an integrated messaging app and a new Web interface.

The new tools reflect how the way people work has evolved, user expectations and that it's time to move forward, says Andrew Sinkov, Evernote VP of marketing, in discussing Evernote's new Workspace software.

"From desk to meeting and from individual work to group projects, Evernote allows you to get it all done without switching apps or contexts," says Sinkov. "We believe that it is our role to not only provide the workspace, but to build an experience that improves the quality of your work and is invested in your success."

Evernote is now offering Context, new software powered by machine learning. Context promises to help users piece together projects by searching for relevant information from past notes, coworkers and external news sources.

"Your Evernote account is full of great information that you've written and collected," says Sinkov. "Connecting the dots between your current project and the similar one you did last year can be difficult. We'll fix that. As you type, we search through your old notes and surface anything related to your current work."

The list of external sources available to Context includes The Wall Street Journal, Factiva, LinkedIn, TechCrunch, CrunchBase, Fast Company, Inc. Magazine and PandoDaily. Evernote says the information may come in from a variety of sources, but none of the user's information is shared.

To round out its evolved offering,, Evernote has also developed its own messaging app so users don't have to leave projects to communicate with team members.

"Work Chat lets you discuss your work with the individuals that will help you get it done, right in Evernote," says Sinkov. "Share notes and notebooks, exchange ideas, and get feedback from colleagues in an instant. You can share and collaborate with as many, or as few, people as you like. The notes and notebooks that you reference will show up in the chats so that they're easy to open and find."

Sinkov says Evernote expects to release the Work Chat messaging app sometime in November.
