Several new images of Apple's upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have leaked. The photos provide a close-up look at what is believed to be the new space black color option, in addition to gold and rose gold variants.

With each passing year, it's becoming increasingly difficult for smartphone makers to keep their unannounced next-generation handsets out of the public's eye. Whether it comes in the form of leaked specs, new features or actual images of a yet-to-be announced device, tech fans can follow their favorite smartphone maker's future handset on an almost-daily basis.

For instance, if you love Google's Nexus smartphones and their guarantee of always having the latest and greatest version of Android, you got your first report that HTC was building Google's next-generation smartphones back in January. Renders of the HTC Nexus Marlin and Nexus Sailfish first leaked in July, and those images were quickly followed up with a video detailing their design later in the month. Most recently, the five-inch Sailfish was spotted on AnTuTu benchmark.

iPhone fans got a jump on Apple's upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in November 2015, a couple of weeks after the company began selling its current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. That initial report claimed what sounded unthinkable at the time, that Apple would drop the standard 3.5 mm headphone port and instead use its Lightning port for charging, data transfer and audio. Several reports over the last few months have backed up that claim, and most recently, a video showed what are supposedly Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus' Lightning EarPods in action.

Smartphone fans also have a pretty good idea of what Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will look like ahead of the company's expected September launch event, as images and videos of the smartphones have been leaking on an almost-daily basis.

The latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus leak comes in the form of several images, which show the smartphones in various color options. It appears that Apple will introduce a new space black hue to replace space gray. The iPhone 7 Plus' dual-lens rear camera is shown, as well as the larger rear shooter expected on the smaller iPhone 7. The handsets' Apple logo and iPhone branding are also in view.

Another set of images show what appears to be space black, rose gold and gold iPhone 7 Plus handsets with Apple's proprietary Smart Connector on the lower rear of the device. As you can see in the image above, these models also have an "S" stamped below the iPhone branding, just like Apple's current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, leading some to believe Apple may launch three iPhone 7 models: an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7s Plus.

Take these new images with a grain of salt for now, however, as it has also been widely reported that Apple canceled the Smart Connector port from this year's iPhones.
