The Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update has finally started rolling out worldwide, bringing a number of tweaks and changes to improve the Windows Mobile experience.

Microsoft started rolling out its Windows 10 Anniversary Update last week for PCs and the HoloLens, but mobile devices were, so far, left out of the loop. It was only a matter of time before the mobile version caught up though, as the update is now making its way to users, albeit gradually.

In an Aug. 16 update to its announcement from earlier this month, Microsoft now notes that the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update has started its journey, bringing some improvements and additional features to Windows 10 Mobile devices worldwide.

The company does point out, however, that the availability of the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update may vary depending on region or country, manufacturer, model, mobile operator, service provider, hardware limitations or other such factors.

To manually check whether the update is available for your Windows 10 Mobile device, head over to Start, swipe to the All apps list, tap Settings > Update & Security > Phone Update > Check for updates. If the update is ready, you can follow the on-screen instructions to install it on your device. If you have yet to see the update, it should become available shortly as the rollout widens its reach.

The Windows 10 Mobile devices that were sold unlocked are the first in line to get the Anniversary Update. The new build carries number 10.0.14393.67 and includes a number of treats, such as notification sync, rich notifications, a Skype app built on the Universal Windows Platform and more.

Although this update is not as feature-packed as the desktop one that hit PCs earlier this month, it still adds some nice touches, such as a camera shortcut, lock screen media controls and support for fingerprint readers. A slew of new emojis are also in the mix, adding a splash of color.

Overall, this update is more of a refinement than an overhaul, as it doesn't really bring a lot of new features. Nevertheless, it should enhance the experience and make things smoother.

The Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update will gradually reach all markets in which Windows 10 Mobile is available, but it may take a while. If you already received the update on your Windows 10 mobile device, drop by our comment section below and let us know what you think of it.
