A bunch of copycat teens have been taking their clown scare pranks too far in c, CA where some other kids are being chased by the machete, bat, and even gun-wielding funny-makers. The police have put the town on high alert and have promised that arrests will be made because they absolutely want the shenanigans, that have the potential to become dangerous, stopped immediately.

The original clown that inspired the copycats, began to make appearances on social media this month, was Wasco. He is actually part of a husband-and-wife team's yearlong photography project, which was also inspired by a similar project in the U.K.

The creepy photos of the clown on twitter and instagram are enough to let anyone with a phobia of clowns to want to hide indoors. Copycats have similarly been photographing themselves and were, at first no cause for alarm since no connected to criminal activity was initially reported. Unfortunately, some kids in California took it a step too far when some spooked residents reported being chased by the creepy clowns, some of whom were carrying weapons.

Bakersfield Police are saying the copycat clowns are no laughing matter when the pranks start to turn violent and out of control.

"We've been having sightings all over the city. They range from anywhere from a guy carrying a gun to a guy carrying a knife running up to houses," said Lt. Jason Matson of the Bakersfield Police Department on Saturday evening.

One juvenile arrest was made after a clown was caught chasing other teens (without a weapon), leaving them "visibly shaken" as described by Sgt. Joseph Grubbs, also of the Bakersfield Police.

The original Wasco clown team has stated that they absolutely do not support the actions of any of the other clown copycats and they did not intend to start a trend when they began their photography project.

While police in California step up their efforts to halt the copycat clown pranks, the Wasco photography project is planned to go on with a new batch of Wasco photo sightings to be posted every month on their social media accounts.
