Google has issued a new update for its virtual tour guide Field Trip app, bringing more features users' way.

For the uninitiated, as the name suggests, the Field Trip app by Niantic Labs (an internal start-up within Google Inc) , takes into consideration a user's current location to show them the places of interest in a thorough and creative manner.

"Field Trip is your guide to the cool, hidden, and unique things in the world around you. Field Trip runs in the background on your phone. When you get close to something interesting, it pops up a card with details about the location. No click is required. If you have a headset or bluetooth connected, it can even read the info to you," notes the app description.

Google issued the update on Tuesday, December 3. The update brings interface tweaks that give a smoother experience via the app and simpler searching of places to visit.

"Today Field Trip is even better! A brand new release for Android and iOS is available NOW," notes Field Trip.

The new features are as follows:

Publisher Preview Functionality - A new publisher preview function allows users to preview content and learn about the unique content each publisher offers

Redesigned Layout - The refreshed layout gives easy access to the Recent, Nearby, Favorites and Map tab with a unified bottom bar

Drawers - The introduction of left/right drawers makes key settings easy to navigate, access and set

Map View Updates - Map view will aggregate multiple cards when users zoom out to scan a larger area
