Viber wants to make it easier for brands and customers to connect so it's introducing new public accounts for businesses.

Many apps like Viber are competing to replace traditional texts and phone calls, offering a more advanced way of communicating online, with more features and perks. To be able to truly replace traditional messages and calls, however, Viber and other such apps need to go beyond just connecting friends and family and cater to stores, brands and businesses too.

With this in mind, the latest Viber update now brings public accounts, allowing businesses to be easily visible and reachable in case customers want to contact them on Viber.

By setting up a public account on Viber, businesses and brands give their customers an additional way to reach them without having to look up a phone number. Whether you have a simple question or a complex customer service issue, Viber wants to facilitate communication with brands and businesses and allow you to contact them as easily as you'd contact a Viber friend.

How To Use Viber Public Accounts

To find Public Accounts on Viber, just tap the Public icon in the main menu and start exploring. Viber added a fictional test business called Violet's Kitchen to show off the new feature. All conversations with a Public Account will appear in your chat list, together with all of your other conversations so they're seamlessly integrated into the whole Viber experience.

Moreover, you can also follow Public Accounts and get exclusive content and offers.

"By giving Viber users access to the businesses they want to talk to and the brands they care about, they can continue to use the messenger they trust the most as a one-stop shop for all of their communications," touts Viber. "What's more, businesses have the unique ability to create custom experiences for you through the private messaging feature, so your 1-on-1 chats with them may be through a visually-rich interface or even powered by a sophisticated chatbot."

Viber is not the only one making efforts in this direction, trying to improve communication between businesses and customers. Twitter recently launched Direct Message (DM) bots to speed up customer service, adding quick replies and welcome messages.

Many customers prefer to send a message rather than call and wait on hold for ages, so this approach to customer service is understandably gaining ground.

Viber Public Accounts are now available with Viber 6.5 for Android and iOS, so give it a shot. If you already tried out the new feature, drop by our comment section below and tell us what you think of it.
