The global recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has cost billions of dollars to the company. It seems that Samsung is trying to recoup some of its lost revenue by selling three-year-old refurbished phones. Some may find this Black Friday 2016 deal great while some may tag this as the worst tech deal of the year.

Galaxy Note 3 Specs

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 3 in September 2013. At that time, it was one of the most-popular mobile phones available in the market. The phablet sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a display resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. The big screen is ideal for people who want to watch videos or play games on the go.

The Galaxy Note 3 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 3 GB of RAM. It comes with a 13-megapixel (with F/2.2 lens) rear-facing camera and 2-megapixel selfie camera.

At launch, the Samsung offering came running with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Over the years it has received a number of software updates and currently runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Customers should not expect to get any major software update to the phone.

Samsung Black Friday Deal

Normally, customers would expect to get impressive deals on new products during Black Friday, at least directly from the company. A previous Tech Times report noted that HTC will be offering the HTC 10, launched earlier this year, at discounted prices as part of its Black Friday deal.

Although, Samsung's 2016 Black Friday deals have already started on Nov. 20, the company is not offering discounts on brand new mobile phones.

Samsung is offering a certified pre-owned Galaxy Note 3 for $249.99, which the company claims is 50 percent off on the actual price. The refurbished phone on offer is a 32 GB white colored model, which will work on Sprint.

Some customers could get attracted to the pre-owned phone; however, it is also worth noting that a new Motorola G4 Plus, which was released in June this year is available from Best Buy for $249.99.

The G4 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, 4 GB of RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery. It is available in 16 GB / 32 GB / 64 GB internal storage options. For $249.99, customers get the 16 GB model from Best Buy.

OnePlus is also offering a brand new OnePlus 2 for $299.99. This phone has much better specs than the refurbished Galaxy Note 3.

Only time will tell if Samsung's Black Friday deal on the refurbished Galaxy Note 3 will attract any buyers, especially in the presence of other smartphones that have similar price tag and better specs than the Galaxy device.
