Apple is hard at work readying its next-generation iPhones, expected to launch in September 2017. A new report from The Wall Street Journal claims Apple is currently testing more than 10 different iPhone 8 prototypes for its highly anticipated release.

After being on the market for almost 10 years, Apple's iPhone continues its dominance, remaining one of the most talked about and desired tech devices. Interest in new iPhones hasn't waned, and details regarding unannounced handsets dominate tech headlines all year.

Next-Generation iPhone Details Leak Early

Only a couple of weeks after the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus went on sale, reports surfaced claiming Apple was planning to make a radical move with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus by removing its standard 3.5 mm headphone port. In late April, it was believed that Apple was considering releasing three models to its iPhone 7 lineup, as opposed to two flagship models as in previous years.

iPhone 7 Prototypes Make The Rounds

Leaked images showed Apple was testing out the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus with the iPad Pro's Smart Connector, spawning rumors of an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro. The Smart Connector-equipped iPhone 7 Pro was later believed to be a prototype that would never see the light of day.

iPhone 8 Prototypes In Testing

Now, as Apple looks toward 2017, it is actively planning what it has in store for iPhone fans. A new report from The Wall Street Journal states that Apple is testing more than 10 next-generation iPhone prototypes. The company has reportedly asked its partners to increase production of OLED displays with better resolution than the 2,560 x 1,440 Quad HD screen Samsung currently uses in its Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy Note 5.

The iPhone 8 is widely believed to feature a redesigned, mostly glass case to allow for wireless charging and a new 3D dual-lens camera that will be manufactured by LG. The new iPhone is also said to take some cues from Samsung's flagship Galaxy S7 edge with the inclusion of a curved edge OLED display gracing at least one variant.

Recent reports have suggested that Apple could be planning to launch three new iPhones in 2017, an iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus and premium iPhone 8.

Apple is known to create many prototypes of its iPhones and iPads in order to get the design and features up to par while also shielding itself from the barrage of leaked images of devices it is planning to officially launch.

As always, we'll keep you posted on any iPhone 8 news as it becomes available.
