Facebook has released its Year in Review report, with the social network highlighting the top trending topics and the most viewed Live videos globally.

Candace Payne, more affectionately known all over the world as "Chewbacca Mom", has by far the most viewed Live video on Facebook, and you might want to watch her video again after going through the mostly sad and controversial topics on Facebook's top ten list for 2016.

Facebook Top Trending Topics 2016

Facebook created its Year in Review report by ranking the most frequently mentioned topics in posts on the social network between Jan. 1 and Nov. 27.

It should be of no surprise that the top trending topic on Facebook globally is the recently concluded presidential election of the United States, which saw Donald Trump score an unprecedented victory over Hillary Clinton.

Coming in second was Brazil's political situation, which saw the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff in May, followed in third by one of the few bright spots on the list, the popular augmented reality mobile game Pokémon Go.

The Black Lives Matter social movement came in at fourth, and rounding out the top five trending topics on Facebook is President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, who has allegedly led a violent campaign of extrajudicial killings against drugs in the country.

Continuing the top 10 are the Olympics, which Brazil struggled to host due to its aforementioned political situation; Brexit, referring to the controversial referendum voting results that pushes for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union; and the Super Bowl, which saw the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers.

Rounding out the top 10 globally trending topics for the year are the passing of trailblazing musician David Bowie and legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.

Facebook Top Global Live Videos

After going through what is mostly a sad list of top trending topics, you might want to add to the view count of Candace Payne's "Chewbacca Mom" video to cheer you up. The live video, which showed Payne laughing hysterically while wearing a Chewbacca mask, has had 162 million views, which is double that of the next video on the list featuring musician Ted Yoder playing a hammered dulcimer.

The rest of the top ten Facebook Live videos globally include four more that are related to the United States presidential election, cementing its status as the top trend on Facebook for 2016.

Facebook Year In Review For Users

The year might not have been the best one for the world, but hopefully the personal year of users will show up to be much better in their personalized Year in Review videos.

The videos, which are collections of the meaningful moments that the user has posted on the social network over 2016, have started appearing this month and can be edited and shared with friends and family.
