Ordering a pizza saved a woman from domestic abuse.

Posted in Reddit thread asking, "911 Operators, what is that one call that you could never forget?" five months ago, user Keith Weisinger shared his story about receiving a call from a woman who ordered a pizza ten years ago.

"I'd like to order a pizza for delivery," the woman told Weisinger.

After thinking it was another prank call, he reiterated to the woman that she had called 911.  "Yeah, I know," the woman said. "Can I have a large with half pepperoni, half mushroom and peppers?"

Weisginer then asked the woman if there was an emergency and if someone in the room was preventing her from talking about it before sending over the police. When the officer arrived at the woman's house, he found the woman "kind of banged up" from her abusive boyfriend.

After checking the history of the woman's address, Weisinger discovered that there has been previous domestic violence related calls. He says he remembers feeling "relieved we had an officer close by who could respond quickly."

Weisinger never found out what happened to the woman, an aspect of the job that is commonly frustrating to 911 dispatchers.

During his time as a 911 operator, Weisinger dispatched for a county of 200,000 people, receiving one or two domestic disturbance calls a night.

"I thought she was pretty clever to use that trick. Definitely one of the most memorable calls," he says.
