In a bid to compete with Dell's Alienware and HP's Omen gaming lines, Lenovo is launching a brand of computers dedicated to gamers in CES 2017 called the Lenovo Legion.

The name of the new gaming laptop series hearkens back to the Roman army.

"Just as the Roman army shared a common purpose that bound them together as a force to be reckoned with, Lenovo Legion is all about our growing community of gamers and their passion for gaming," the company announced.

To coincide with the launch of the gaming hardware series, the company is also introducing two gaming laptops: the Lenovo Legion Y720 and Y520.

Since graphics and speed are major factors when it comes to a gaming laptop, the aforementioned laptops are fitted with the latest NVIDIA graphics cards and Intel's 7th generation Kaby Lake processors. They also sport a 16 GB DDR4 memory and a Thunderbolt 3 port so that gamers can plug and play at lightning speeds.

Lenovo Legion Y720 Is VR-Ready

With virtual reality shaping up to be a gaming trend this year, Lenovo incorporated an NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphics card into the Y720 laptop in order to make it VR-ready. Just plug in a VR headset in its HDMI port and you're all set for a session of truly immersive gaming.

The 17-inch Lenovo Y720 also comes with a 4K display resolution with anti-glare coating so that gamers will have crystal clear screen time while playing to their hearts' content. It also has a built-in Xbox One wireless controller receiver perfect for people who find it annoying to plug a dongle or a cable into a PC. The 15-inch Y520 laptop, the cheaper option, offers up to 1080p resolution.

Other Notable Features Of The Lenovo Y520 and Y720

In order to enrich your games even further, the Y720 comes with Dolby Atmos, ensuring you will be enveloped in a realistic audio experience. And if you are a night owl, no worries. The Y720 has an optional RGB keyboard while the Y520 has a red backlit keyboard, making these laptops super easy to play with at night.

The Y520 and Y720 gaming laptops start at $900 and $1,400, respectively. The former will be on sale by February, while the latter will be coming in April. If you are shopping around for a high-quality gaming laptop but have a limited budget, both of these gaming laptops are definitely worthy of your consideration.
