Sony does not want to be left behind in the scramble for the best 4K TV at CES 2017. Leading the company's charge is the massive 4K XBR-A1E Bravia OLED TV, which boasts of a few distinguishing marks, leaving it one of the standouts in the consumer show thus far.

Sony's Take On The OLED Technology

The new Bravia TV A1E series means that LG is no longer dominating the OLED segment in the market. One should note, however, that Sony has supposedly sourced its display panel from the South Korean tech company LG Display and so it can only rely on proprietary processing to differentiate the Bravia from the current LG OLED offering.

According to a report from The Verge, however, Sony still refuses to officially confirm its OLED vendor.

Nevertheless, it is helpful to remember that OLED technology is prized by electronic manufacturers for allowing extremely high-quality display with deep blacks, high color range but less energy consumption. Its pixels are able to light itself up, dispensing with the need for a separate backlighting component. This variable also leads to the achievement of extremely thin display.

Sony Acoustic Surface

While LG chose to go for the super thin, touting its wallpaper-like OLED TV, Sony has implemented its own curious technology.

Like its LG rival, the Bravia is also bezel-free but it has no accompanying soundbar. Its maker instead developed a new audio system that it calls as Acoustic Surface.

This rendered the entire screen as a speaker as if sound is emanating directly from the very images themselves. According to Sony, this new technology allows the TV to offer more comprehensive soundstage and also better synchronization between sound and visuals.

Sony BRAVIA's Form Factor

Sony has also kept the display's thin form factor by porting the TV's main innards onto the stand, which the display uses for support. As it is hidden from view, the Bravia itself looks like it is leaning backwards on its own.

"Sony continues to make consumer choice a priority especially for those seeking the very best viewing experience, and we are proud to introduce our new XBR-A1E BRAVIA OLED series," Mike Fasulo, Sony's President and COO, said in an official statement. "Sony delivers incredible innovation and excitement to customers with all of our premium 4K HDR TVs through a powerful mix of technology and our exclusive image processing."

There are still no pricing details but the Bravia OLED TV range will come in three sizes: 77-inch, 65-inch and 55-inch models. If you would like to see this cutting-edge technology and you happen to be at CES, head to Sony's exhibition at Booth #17300.
