One of the Warner Bros. / DC movies slated to be released in the coming years, is Shazam, with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson starring as Black Adam. Since the film's announcement, fans have been wondering if it will be a part of the DC Cinematic Universe. It now appears as if that is not the case.

The Rock recently responded to a question from a fan on Twitter about whether or not Shazam will be a film that is serious in tone or fun for the whole family. Johnson responded by saying that the film will be bad-ass and fun, then he hash-tagged 'Independence.'

"@dickfundy I guaran-damn-tee we're gonna have bad ass fun w/ Black Adam. (Its a NL/DC property). #Independence See u at the junket homie," says The Rock via his Twitter account.

Now, from what we take from all of this, New Line Cinema will be the studio behind Shazam, and not Warner Bros., though this is something we knew beforehand. This could be the big sign that Shazam won't be a part of the DC Cinematic Universe, and that would be a shame.

We're not certain what DC and Warner Bros. are planning here, but we'd love to get an explanation in the future.

Maybe they don't see how Shazam will fit in the overall DC Cinematic Universe; after-all, the hero is very similar to Superman. Back in the past, Shazam was owned by another, and Warner Bros. sued the company because the character was too similar to Superman.

For those who are unaware, Shazam comics at the time were outselling Superman, so if DC weren't successful in its lawsuit, Shazam could have become bigger than Superman.

As the years travels by, DC ended up purchasing the rights to Shazam, and the rest is history, probably.
