With the MWC inching closer, OEMs are gearing up to launch a bevy of new devices. As three much-awaited trade shows draw nearer, leaks and rumors pertaining to next-gen handsets are gathering momentum.

One such smartphone that both consumers and tech pundits are looking forward to is the LG G6 — the successor of the LG G5.

The flagship smartphone from LG has been making waves for a while, thanks to its frequent teasers. The latest buzz surrounding the LG G6 is that the smartphone will be equipped with a 3,200 mAh battery, albeit a non-removable one.

This would be a departure from LG's strategy as the predecessor of the smartphone housed a removable battery.

The latest information is courtesy of publication ETNews, which cites a "carrier official."

What Else Did The Official Reveal?

The official not only affirmed that the battery capacity of the LG G6 will be 15 percent more than that of the predecessor but also shed light that the smartphone's battery will be safe.

He also revealed that the device will deploy the Smart Doctor app, which will basically prevent any battery explosion.

"The G6 is a product focused on user convenience. Smart Doctor, which diagnoses the status of smartphones and presents solutions, will be applied sequentially from the G6 (translated)," revealed the official.

This app is designed to stop the LG G6 from exploding in a user's hand as it uses thermal conductivity and diffusion considerations.

The official has also let on the reason behind LG opting for a non-removable battery for the smartphone.

According to the teaser released by LG itself, the smartphone is expected to be IP68 certified, which will make the handset waterproof and dust resistant. The carrier official has shared that it is because of these capabilities that the company has made the battery a non-removable one.

The LG G6's battery will be 400 mAh more than that of the LG G5, which touted a 2,800 mAh one.

The source reveals that the LG G6 will support a 12-hour battery life on a single charge and in "standard internet" use.

LG G6 Release

LG will debut the flagship smartphone at its MWC press event which is slated for Feb. 26. Incidentally, Samsung, too, has its press event on the same day.

The LG G6 is expected to release in home country South Korea in March, followed by a U.S. release in April.
