Sleep Better With Night Shift Mode

Night Shift mode is a popular app in iOS that is now coming to Mac. What is Night Shift mode? According to Mac:

Night Shift adjusts the color of your display after sunset. Many studies show that exposure to bright-blue light in the evening can affect your circadian rhythms and make it harder to fall asleep. After sunset, Night Shift will shift your display colors to the warmer end of the spectrum, making the display easier on your eyes. In the morning, your display returns to its regular settings.

An app called f.lux adjusts the colors of your display from blue tones to yellow ones so your body clock is not affected, thus you get better sleep at night. Now, there won't be a need to install third-party apps as the feature is already part of the OS.

How To Use The Night Shift Mode

Night Shift can be toggled On or Off by accessing the Apple display settings. To do this, you must:

• Click on the Apple icon in the menu bar.
• Select System Preferences.
• Choose "Displays" icon.
• Choose "Night Shift" among the three tabs in this menu (Display, Color, and Night Shift).
• Choose either "Sunset to Sunrise" or "Custom" from the "Schedule" option.

The Sunset to Sunrise option lets your Mac turn on the Night Shift automatically when the sun sets and off when the sun rises the next day. This is based on your location's day and night times. Naturally, you must set your location in your Mac via Security and Privacy Preferences. The Custom mode lets you set the time when you want your Mac to turn on Night Shift.

Adjust Color Temp And Quick Toggle

There is also an option to adjust the color temperature of your Night Shift mode. The colors are set in the middle by default, but you can change it by dragging the slider left (cooler blue colors) or right (warmer yellow colors).

You can also toggle the Night Shift quickly using the Notification Center. Just click on the Notification Center icon in the menu bar (three lines). In there, you can switch the Night Shift mode On or Off.
