Car drivers in the southern state of Louisiana are believed to be worst drivers in the country, which gives pedestrians a reason to watch out on the streets.

U.S. online automobile insurance comparison website CarInsuranceComparison.com has collected data from various sources and has ranked "Worst Drivers by State" in the country. The website has collected data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Motorists Association and Mothers Against Drink Driving.

"Road rage, careless driving, swerving cars: these may all be things you encounter during your normal commute. And the thought 'This state has got to have the worst drivers!' may cross your mind from time to time. It's time to update our findings with the latest driving statistics and ask once again, 'Which state has the worst drivers?' Keep in mind that not only are bad drivers aggravating and dangerous, but they contribute to increased auto insurance premiums in your State!" per CarInsuranceComparison.com.

The website explains that individual states received scores based on five categories: fatalities rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, failure to obey (traffic signals + seat belts), drunk driving, tickets and careless driving.

According to CarInsuranceComparison.com, drivers in Louisiana got to the number one position for failure to obey, speeding tickets and careless driving. Many motorists would have thought that drivers in the state will improve as Louisiana topped the rankings in 2012 as well.

Worst drivers ranking in Louisiana means that pedestrians in the state will always have to be watchful and vigilant while walking on the street.

The website revealed that after Louisiana, South Carolina ranks second in the Worst Drivers by State list, followed by Mississippi and Texas in the third and fourth positions, respectively. Alabama grabbed the fifth spot, Florida sixth and the seventh position is a tie between Missouri and North Carolina.

Montana is ranked ninth and North Dakota has been placed tenth in the list.

And you thought New York drivers were the worst.
