While Overwatch: Anniversary has been a fun way to celebrate a year of Overwatch, Blizzard hasn't exactly made it easy to get some of those sought-after skins only available in the event. Hopefully, it will be easier with how Blizzard's going to close out the event.

Experience Booster

To close out Overwatch: Anniversary, Blizzard's going to give players the chance to get double experience in the event's final weekend. Anyone who logs in and plays from June 8 to June 12 will get that bonus XP. The bonus will apply to normal sources of XP such as medals, time spent in matches, consecutive matches, etc. — along with group and in-game bonuses. The only exception to this will be the first win of the day, which will still reward the normal 1,500 XP.

The announcement came via Overwatch blog which listed all the possible routes of getting XP during the weekend. It also listed the times the event starts for each major market and time zone. Stateside, it begins at June 8 at 8 p.m. EDT / 5 p.m. PDT, and will end June 12 11:59 p.m. PDT / June 13 2:59 a.m. EDT.

The Rarer, The Better

Overwatch: Anniversary started May 23 with more than 100 items to unlock from the anniversary loot boxes. This includes 11 legendary skins that are unique to each other compared to previous events where skins fit the event theme. The drop rates on these legendary skins, however, has been extremely low, even by Overwatch standards.

This has been a point of criticism about the event, with articles and threads bringing up the lower-than-normal drop rate for even legendary skins and the amount of time it would take to unlock all of them. This isn't the first time Blizzard caught flak for an event decision, with last year's Summer Games event rewards only available through event loot boxes and unavailable for purchase with credits during the event. However, it was remedied by the next event, Halloween Terror, where rewards could be purchased for enough credits. This at least shows Blizzard is aware of any problems that emerge and actively work to address them quickly.

That said, anyone who doesn't feel like grinding for XP and loot boxes can just buy loot boxes outright. Still won't guarantee those skins though, so better get to it before the event ends.
