As 2013 comes to a close, Apple has unveiled its annual "best-of" list of iTunes content, listing the best songs, movies, TV shows, books, and apps of the last 12 months.

 

Virtually everyone got addicted to the Candy Crash Saga this year so there's no surprise when it topped both the iPhone's and iPad's free apps charts as well as the iPad's paid apps chart. The game, which was launched in November 2012 and available for both the iOS and Android platform, has been downloaded 500 million times and played more than 150 billion times, according to its developer King. Minecraft, on the other hand, was the top paid app for the iPhone.

Duolingo also had a blast in 2013 as the iPhone app of the year. Ridiculous Fishing: A Tale of Redemption, on the other hand, was the game of the year. For the iPad, BADLAND made it as game of the year and Disney Animated, the app of the year.

In the Music, Movie and TV category, Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity took the title of best movie while Steve Carell's Despicable Me 2 won as the best animated movie. The best-selling movie of the year was Sam Mendes' Skyfall. Argo, Star Trek: Into Darkness and Wreck-it-Ralph also made it to the list.

The top TV show of the year went to Breaking Bad: The Final Season while the third season of Scandal, the best breakthrough; the first season of Orphan Black, best discovery; and the fourth season of Duck Dynasty, the best reality TV show of 2013. Breaking Bad was the number one franchise followed by Downtown Abbey, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Mad Me.

Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience released last March made it as the year's top album followed by Beyonce's fifth self-titled "visual album " which came unannounced just a few days ago. Timberlake was named artist of the year.

Macklemore's The Heist was named album of the year. His song Thrift Shop was also the top track, followed by "Blurred Lines" and "Radioactive". Lord's "Royals" was 2013′s song of the year while "Good Kid, M.A.A.D." was the year's breakthrough album.

As far as books are concerned, George Saunder' Tenth of December was the best fiction of the year while the non-fiction distinction went to Bill Bryson's One Summer. Best young adult went to Brandon Sanderson's The Rithmatist and the best "Made for iBooks" went to Breaking Bad.
