Splatoon 2 has now officially launched for the Nintendo Switch, pitting players in ink-soaked arenas crowded by weapon-wielding human-squid hybrids. It looks much better than it sounds, we assure you.

Like many Nintendo titles released in recent years, Splatoon 2 supports amiibo accessories. For those who don't know, the company's broad amiibo collection is a line of NFC-capable figurines that either act as precious standalone collectibles, a nice way to get bonus content, or both.

Both amiibo sets from Splatoon and Splatoon 2 work with the game, with each figure unlocking special gear that can give your character additional perks or abilities. It's certainly worth remembering, however, that you can only unlock once piece of gear from an amiibo per day.

To scan, head over to Nikopolis Square and locate an empty amiibo display case near the rear of the plaza. Interact with the box and wait for a menu to appear. Then place your amiibo on the right Joy-Con's NFC reader. This will unlock the amiibo's special gear set.

Inkling Boy amiibo

• Scanning the Inkling Boy from Splatoon 2 amiibo will give you the Squinja Armor gear set, which includes a Squinja Mask for the headgear, a Squinja Suit for clothing, and a pair of Squinja Shoes for footwear. Perks include special saver, swimming speed boost, and faster respawn.

• Scanning the Inkling Boy from the original Splatoon will come with the Samurai Outfit gear set, which includes a Samurai Helmet, a Samurai Jacket, and Samurai Shoes. Perks include special charge up, special power increase, and quick super jump.

Inkling Girl amiibo

• Inkling Girl from Splatoon 2 comes with the Power Armor Mk1 gear set, which includes a Power Mask Mk1, a Power Armor Mk1, and Power Boots Mk1. Its perk is enhanced resistance to ink and bombs

• Inkling Girl from the original Splatoon, meanwhile, comes with the School Outfit gear set, which includes a School Hairclip, a School Uniform, and School Shoes. Perks include ink saver, high recovery speed, and faster swimming.

Inkling Squid amiibo

Scanning the Inkling Squid amiibo from the original Splatoon unlocks the Power Armor gear set, which includes a Power Mask, a Power Armor, and Power Boots. Perks include faster respawn, higher defense against bombs, and ink saver.

Marie amiibo

Scanning the Marie amiibo unlocks the Armor Replica outfit, though this can only be unlocked after beating the single player. It comes with an Armor Helmet Replica, an Armor Jacket Replica, and Armor Boot Replica. Perks include tenacity, ink saver, and special charge up.

Callie amiibo

Like Marie, Callie's gear set only unlocks after beating single player. The Hero Replica Outfit comes with a Hero Headset Replica, a Hero Jacket Replica, and Hero Runner Replica. Perks include faster swimming, faster running, and faster super jump.
