Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived in New York Sunday night for their three-day visit to the United States that will include a meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House.

The royal couple is in New York primarily to launch United for Wildlife, a new charity that seeks to help wildlife conservation initiatives in Africa.

Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived at the JFK International Airport and headed to the hotel where they will be staying, the Carlyle Hotel, which is one of Princess Diana's favorites. Well-wishers to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge waited for them outside in the biting cold, but they were kept far away from the hotel's entrance by New York police officers.

New York had a multitude of greetings for Prince William and Kate Middleton. Virgin Atlantic had a crowd line up for the couple at the JFK airport, while the Empire State Building featured Union Jack colors to welcome them.

The first night of Prince William and Kate Middleton in New York, which will be the first for them both, is spent in a private party held for the American Friends of the Royal Foundation.
