The screw-ups for Ubisoft just keep coming, at least with the game developer's latest release, Assassin's Creed Unity. A new issue comes today in the form of a patch on the XBox One, which, instead of being a patch file, is actually a 40GB download of the full game.

Yes, that's right. If you play Assassin's Creed Unity on the Xbox One, you'll have to re-download the entire game.

"Unfortunately, an issue with the patch downloading process is replacing the entire game instead of just the parts affected by the patch," writes Ubisoft on its Assassins Creed blog. "This is obviously not the expected behavior, and we apologize that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download."

The company stated that it is working with Microsoft to fix the problem and make the download smaller. However, the company admits it has no estimated time of when that might happen.

Ubisoft has been actively apologizing for issues involving Assassin's Creed Unity since the game's release last month. The game became Internet famous for some of its biggest glitches, including the complete lack of faces during scenes in-game. Many other bugs were also reported, including problems with controls, players getting stuck and weird NPC behavior.

The problems were so well-reported that Ubisoft initially apologized by offering a free season pass to all the game's downloadable content (DLC). Those who pre-purchased the season pass received a free game.

Unity is the highly anticipated fifth chapter in the Assassin's Creed game franchise. Because of these issues, as well as negative feedback on the inclusion of micro-transactions within the game, both players and critics are panning it. PC World called it "a new low for the Assassin's Creed series."

"In many ways, Assassin's Creed Unity suggests where the franchise can go with cooperative play and exciting, more fully realized worlds," writes Polygon. "But Unity feels like nothing so much as a meal taken out of the oven too soon."

This new patch is the fourth update from Ubisoft fixing issues in the game. Its intended file size, at 6.7 GB isn't small, but the developer completely reworked the Paris setting of the game to improve framerate.

Ubisoft states that those who own the Xbox One disc version of the game can uninstall it and then reinstall it and not have to download the full 40GB file. Still, it's yet another hassle for players and a screw-up on behalf of the developer, who just can't seem to get it right with this title.
