Konami released an unexpected Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain update for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that will finally allow gamers to play as Quiet in FOB missions online.

Quiet, a mute sniper with barely any clothes because she breathes through her skin, is one of the most valuable allies in Metal Gear Solid V. Her variety of skills, including her magic with sniper rifles, will prove to be very useful in invading other players' bases.

Play As Quiet With 'Metal Gear Solid 5' Update

Konami rolled out an unexpected Metal Gear Solid V update that comes about a year after the last one. Perhaps even more surprising is its main feature, which finally makes Quiet a playable character in FOB missions.

Quiet is a playable character in Metal Gear Online, offering similar abilities of extreme agility and cloaking. In the main campaign of Metal Gear Solid V, players had to recruit Quiet by tracking her down and beating her in a sniper showdown. The mission requires a bit of preparation, but the payoff is huge, as the scantily clad sniper is one of the most powerful characters in the game.

When playing as Quiet, players will enjoy a steady aim when looking through the scope of a sniper rifle. Quiet will carry over the sprint ability from the main campaign, allowing her to cover long distances quickly, and will also be capable of jumping straight up on most ladders. Lastly, Quiet also has a cloaking ability that will make her invisible after standing still for a few seconds, similar to the stealth camo used by Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Surprise 'Metal Gear Solid V' Update

Adding Quiet as a playable character in FOB missions is not the only thing that the surprise update adds to Metal Gear Solid V.

The Metal Gear Solid V update also adds new items for FOB missions, namely new sniper rifle Renov-Ickx bis, which may be created as its non-lethal version; a dark matter generator that either damages or stuns enemies; and an energy wall that protects players by temporarily nullifying gunshots.

Konami also added a new difficulty level for Event FOB missions, which will allow players to score more event points.

Metal Gear Solid V was actually offered as one of the free PlayStation Plus games in October 2017, showing its age. The game is headlined by Big Boss and is set before the events of the original Metal Gear.
