Gamers who have long been waiting for the arrival of Shenmue III will have to wait for another year, after a new trailer for the game revealed a new release date.

Shenmue III will continue the epic series that started on the Sega Dreamcast, with Shenmue in 1999 and Shenmue II in 2001. Fans have been waiting for Shenmue III for 17 years, but it looks like they will have to wait for one more year.

'Shenmue III' Release Date Revealed

In June 2017, Shenmue III, which was expected to launch in December of that year, was delayed to the second half of 2018. Now, a new trailer revealed that gamers will have to wait a bit longer before they get their hands on the third game in the series.

Publisher Deep Silver and developer Ys Net, which shattered the Kickstarter record when it raised $6.3 million in crowdfunding for Shenmue III, said that the game will be ready to launch on Aug. 27 next year on the PlayStation 4 and PC.

The Shenmue III release date was revealed in a new trailer for the game, which focused on the prophecy that protagonists Ryo Hazuki and Ling Shenhua will find themselves together on a "rocky path." No additional information about the story of Shenmue III, however, was revealed.

Shenmue and Shenmue II were considered as cult classics for the Sega Dreamcast, gaining a following for the characters and its storyline. However, with Sega pulling out of the video game console industry after the Dreamcast, many believed that the Shenmue series also came to an abrupt end.

Shenmue III has faced several delays along the way, but with a specific release date, gamers are hoping that it will finally see the light of day. However, given its history, there is always the possibility of another Shenmue III delay on the horizon.

'Shenmue' And 'Shenmue II' HD Remasters

Sega announced at the Sega Fes 2018 event that Shenmue and Shenmue II will be rereleased this year, finally making a report from 2016 on HD remasters for the first two Shenmue titles into a reality. The games are now available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, featuring graphics upgrades, an improved user interface, and the option to switch between old and new control schemes, among other modern features.

With Shenmue III a year away, fans of the series may want to revisit the first two games to relive the experience.

In addition, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to download a free Shenmue I & II dynamic theme to spice up their consoles.
